Financial Literacy Webinar for Medical Students & Residents
Navigating your finances during medical training can be challenging. For Black medical students, BPAO offers comprehensive support through our Medical Learners initiative to ensure a successful transition from learner to physician. This program includes mentorship pairings with experienced physicians, networking events, summer socials and career development workshops. We strive to enhance learning experiences, provide guidance during training, and foster a sense of community among medical learners.
Med Student Summer Socials: We host an event to welcome and celebrate new medical students and Residents every year.
Community Health Centre Education Program (CHCE): Aims to bridge the gap for 1st and 2nd-year Black medical students in Ontario by exposing them to Community Health Centers (CHCs). Learn more about the CHCE programme here
Network for the Advancement of Black Learners (N-ABL): Focuses on supporting Black medical students through a six-pillar framework, including curriculum, mentorship, and wellness. Learn more about N-ABL
Mentorship and Sponsorship: Building Successful Medical Careers
Our mentorship program is designed to support and develop the careers of Black medical students in Canada. We offer mentorship pods that focus on specific medical disciplines, ensuring targeted and effective guidance. Learn more about our mentorship hubs.
Program Details

Open to all Black medical students enrolled in Canadian medical schools.

Each pod includes one to two staff physicians and a resident mentor.

Held every three months, these sessions cover strategies to maximize observerships, research opportunities, and understanding specialty expectations.
Given the limited number of Black physicians in various specialties, we encourage you to actively engage with your mentors through these pods. This program aims to bridge gaps and foster a supportive community for aspiring Black physicians.
