The BPAO hosts Four Continuing Professional Development events throughout the year to support the ongoing education and development of physicians. Our CPD events focus on addressing health disparities, enhancing clinical skills, and promoting best practices in medical care for Black communities.

At our annual Health symposium, Physicians from across the province delve into critical health matters and their impact on our community. This event gives attendees the opportunity to gain valuable insights and engage in discussions that contribute to the well-being of our local community.
Speaker highlights at the Symposium:
Our 15th Annual Health Symposium held in February, 2024 featured an inspiring keynote by Jennifer Bernard, President and CEO of the SickKids Foundation, who emphasized the transformative power of philanthropy in healthcare. Dr. Neil Isaac, Radiologist at North York General Hospital, discussed the importance of early breast cancer screening for Black women. Dr. Michelle Scholzberg from St. Michael's Hospital tackled institutionalized sexism and racism within hematology. Dr. Yvette Miller-Monthrope, a board-certified Dermatologist, highlighted effective care strategies for diverse skin types. Closing the symposium was BPAO member Dr. Chantal Phillips, a Resident from the University of Ottawa, who shared her thoughts on how to better understand and care for Black youth and their health.

BPAO mental health CPD: Building & Bridging Capacity - Black Youth & Mental Health: This event provided participants with specialized strategies for handling a substantial number of Black youth patients facing mental health difficulties and psychosis.
