Sharing our voices for our health

Black, White Coats & Stethoscopes

What a night!

What a celebration!  And DJ Starting From Scratch was !!!

Thanks to all, including the organizers, the sponsors, the schools, our host – Brandon Gonez from CP24, our featured speaker Uché Blackstock and our tech guru, Obadiah George.  Most importantly we want to thank the students!!!  Congratulations and good luck!

Here’s hoping to equitable representation in medical schools, hospitals and clinics in the future!

BPAO would like to thank the following sponsors:

Despite the turbulence of the last few months, a quiet revolution has taken place in medicine. We have seen a record number of students admitted to medical schools across the country. These young, hopeful students are the leaders that will change the face of medicine in Ontario and Canada.

We wish we could  meet face to face to celebrate the achievements of those in medical training, but Covid has said nope! But this doesn’t stop us as BPAO. So we are taking it virtually.

BPAO in conjunction with BMSA and BMSAC will be hosting a virtual block party celebrating the unprecedented number of new medical students.  We will be welcoming the largest class of Black medical students ever in Canada! We will also be celebrating our newest cohort of recently graduated Black doctors all across the country!

The party starts at 7 pm hosted by Brandon Gonez of CP24We are honoured to announce that Dr. Uché Blackstock, CEO of Advancing Health Equity, will be our keynote speaker. We will have physicians, residents and medical students speaking from across Canada.

But what block party is complete without music?

Clear the living room, open the windows because at 8pm DJ Starting from Scratch will be spinning taking you back to some old school hip hop, R and B and of course Afrobeats and soca.

Join us on August 8th 2020 at 7pm at www.bpao.org/celebration. All are welcome and it is a free event. Tell your colleagues, friends, grandparents, aunties and everyone that wants to celebrate Black Canadian excellence in medicine!

This event is a celebration for the Black communities across Canada as we hope to create a safe and beautiful environment for all of us to connect. Without the love, support and investment of our communities, we would not be in these positions.

The best part is, you don’t have to call an Uber or Taxi to take you home!
